Bobcats pounce for 104-65 NBA win over Heat

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

There was an easy NBA win in Charlotte, but it wasn’t what Miami’s Michael Beasley apparently had in mind as the Bobcats pounced for a 104-65 victory over the Heat.

Stephen Jackson scored 24 points and Gerald Wallace added 20 points with 10 rebounds as Charlotte capped a 6-0 homestand with the one-sided victory over the lackluster Heat.

Beasley added that he meant no disrespect to Charlotte, but that apparently got lost when the quote was posted in the Charlotte locker room before the game.

“I kind of laughed at it, smiled at it,” said Raymond Felton, who scored 14 points. “But at the same time (the quote) was in the back of my head the whole game.”

The Bobcats haven’t needed a lot of extra motivation lately. They improved to a league-leading 9-1 since the start of 2010, and to 21-19 overall.

They shot a club record 82 percent in the first quarter and were up by 27 points at halftime. The Bobcats led by as many as 41 points in the fourth quarter, and allowed the fewest points in team history.

As for Beasley, he finished with six points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Heat star Dwyane Wade scored 16 points but was only 3-of-12 and committed four fouls in the first half.

“We didn’t play up to our potential,” Beasley said. “We lost. They got the win. There ain’t really too much to say.”

Jason Terry scored 24 points i.e. making 7-of-8 field goals while Dirk Nowitzki added 23 to help the Mavericks overcome a 56-39 second-quarter deficit and claim their second straight win.

During the second half, Dallas outscored Houston 64-42 to improve to 5-2 this season and move into first place in the Southwest Division.

Aaron Brooks led the way for Houston with 22 points while Carl Landry had 19 for the Rockets (4-3).

In the first quarter, Forward Luis Scola scored 10 points as Houston opened up a 37-28 lead, who have impressed this season despite being without the injured pair Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.

Dallas fought back with a 22-3 run that started before halftime and carried into the third quarter.

Jose Juan Barea scored eight of his 14 points in the final 2:20 of the third quarter, reserving Mavericks, which ended with Dallas leading 83-74 advantage.

Center Erick Dampier made 20 rebounds and scored 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting while Josh Howard added 14 points in his second game back with the team after missing the first five with ankle and wrist injuries.

His return has coincided with a sharp improvement in the Mavericks’ offense and they have passed 120 points in their last two games.

Nash shines for red-hot Suns in victory over 76ers

      Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

On Monday, Steve Nash scored 21 points and made 20 assists as the Phoenix Suns continued their fine start to the season with a 119-115 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

With 29 points, Jason Richardson top-scored as the Suns (7-1) overcame an eight-point deficit in the final quarter to move clear of the idle LA Lakers at the top of the Western Conference.

Along with 24 points, Andre Iguodala led the way for the 76ers while Marreese Speights chipped in with 20 as Philadelphia fell to 3-4.

Last year, the Suns failed to make the playoffs but this year he trailed the 76ers 102-94 with 7:07 remaining but rallied to post their third straight victory.

Jared Dudley scored 13 of his 18 points off the bench in the final quarter, where he made three of Phoenix’s 15 three-pointers.

Richardson gave a comfortable cushion to the Suns, scoring the next five points with the game tied at 108-108. And Nash made six straight free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

The 35-year-old Nash, who signed a contract extension to stay with Phoenix in the off-season, has looked rejuvenated as he orchestrates the team’s arsenal.

Nash tied his season-high of 20 Monday, leading the league in assists, which was two off his career best.

The Suns finished their five-game Eastern Conference road trip with four wins while the 76ers lost for the third time in four.

Philadelphia forward Elton Brand had just 10 points and hasn’t appeared on form this season since returning from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for most of the 2008-09 campaign.
