Microsoft is notifying approximately 800 workers that their jobs are being eliminated as the software giant completes the layoffs it announced earlier this year.
Microsoft, in January, had said that it would cut approximately 5000 positions before the end of the next fiscal year, which ends in June.
After the current eliminations, Microsoft completes its cuts. The approximate number of job cuts will be 5800.
Microsoft has not announced any specific products that are getting the axe as a result of the cuts, although it has cut a variety of products in recent months, including Microsoft Money, Windows Live OneCare and very recently its small business accounting product line.
Microsoft may execute some more cuts, even as it is also hiring some in key areas. Microsoft continuously reviews its businesses and makes adjustments as necessary.
Among the Wednesday’s cuts, was Don Dodge, one of Microsoft’s key voices in Silicon Valley and a director on the company’s emerging business team.
